Scottie Scheffler gives Cameron Smith a public snub as he walks along the putting line

OUT of line, or LIVING with it?

Scottie Scheffler crossed Cameron Smith's line of putting, seemingly to rebuke the Open champion for joining the controversial LIV Tour.

Cameron Smith looked astonished when he walked across the fairway to prepare a putt at PGA Tour's FedEx St. Jude Championship

The incident was minor, but the Scottie Scheffler-Cambridge Smith pairing in Memphis, Tennessee went smoothly.

Smith was stunned when American Scheffler, a player who broke one of golf's unwritten rules during their first round at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis, shocked Smith.

Scheffler was the Aussie who was bent down to evaluate a putt.

Smith dodged any questions regarding whether he was defecting to the money-spinning Saudi LIV tour.

He seemed particularly unhappy after being quizzed about it shortly after his St Andrews victory in July.

He replied, "I just won British Open and now you're asking me about that?" That's not very good, I think."

After another similar question, he replied: "I don’t know, mate."

"My team worries about me, but I'm here for the golf tournaments."

Scheffler's remarkable feat was not the only reason he gave his opponent a high-five for his eagle on 13th hole par-four.

However, his apparent dislike for Smith's Saudi million win won him lots of support via social media.

One fan wrote: "It's becoming physical now. One fan asked: "LIV dudes, can you just pack and leave?" Another replied: "Nuanced golf dis. It's great!

Shocked comments included the following: "This is basically Golf's version throwing at someone's head."

One observer tweeted "Spicy headgames from Scottie LIV related?"

A few people suggested Scheffler's actions weren't LIV-related.

One view of this was "Wrong wrong wrong!" Scheffler is afraid Cam will get some of his prize money.

However, this opinion was mostly rebuffed when the Yank's quick walk across the green earned him approving words such as "Beautiful” and "Love it".
