Has Scottie Scheffler really won ‘only’ five times this year? It feels like he is winning every other week when you’re trying to find someone to take him down.
Actually, Scheffler’s winning percentage IS mightily impressive.
The world No 1’s victory at last week’s BMW saw him become the only golfer to win at least five times in successive seasons since Tiger Woods achieved it in 2006-2007.
And so it is onto the climax of the PGA Tour season, the 30-man Tour Championship at East Lake, where you will be lucky to get odds of more than 6-4 for Scheffler to make it win No 6.
And although backing against him feels like a futile exercise at the moment, there are alternatives – including Rory McIlroy, even though his 12th place finish last week was a big disappointment.

Tour Championship 2025 betting tips
The theory that a fresh McIlroy might have an advantage at the BMW fell apart, as he remained stuck in second gear for most of the tournament.
He actually looked rusty at times after a four week break. That should not be a problem this week, and the 8-1 in places looks decent given his previous record at East Lake.
McIlroy is the only player to win the FedEx Cup title three times, and has also posted six other top ten finishes in his 11 starts at the Tour Championship. So he probably deserves another chance this week.
And this year’s other Major champion, JJ Spaun, also catches the eye at 33-1, even though this will be his East Lake debut.
Spaun has repeatedly shown his US Open victory was no fluke, and a share of 23rd last week was no disgrace after his play-off defeat against Justin Rose at the St Jude probably took a lot out of him.
Rose was clearly even more drained, as he finished three hots behind Spaun in joint 30th at the BMW. But the Englishman is another former winner here, so 28-1 is not to be sniffed at.
With only 30 players teeing it up there are not too many longshots worth considering – although the 50-1 for Corey Conners looks fair, and after a top 20 last week 100-1 shot Jacob Bridgeman might sneak into the each way places.

British Masters 2025 betting tips
The English duo of Matt Fitzpatrick and Aaron Rai contest favouritism at the British Masters at around 12-1. But both would much rather be at East Lake than the Belfry, and I think the value lies elsewhere.
Rasmus Hojgaard looked stunned at last week’s Danish Masters when Marco Penge denied him the victory that would have guaranteed a top six spot on the Ryder Cup rankings.
Hojgaard needs only a top thirty finish this week to put that right. But I think he could clinch his European debut in style by going one better than last week.
Hojgaard showed a liking for the course when he finished third here a year ago, and 16-1 makes him a decent each way proposition, at worst.
Kristoffer Reitan just about justified each way support last week in a share of sixth place, despite an horrendous four over par 74 in the opening round. He looks good value again at 25-1.
In a field packed with fancied English contenders, 50-1 shot Andy Sullivan is still capable of challenging in events like this, while Brandon Robinson Thompson is a lively outsider at around 150-1.
