McIlroy was still three shots behind Scheffler despite his four-putt.
He said, "I tried not to lose my head and execute shots after my victory."
"I knew that if I took care and played solid stuff, I would get the job done.
"I was glad that I didn't miss those putts at end, because it meant I wasn't too emotional."

McIlroy was, however, delighted with his performance.
According to the 32-year old, it was "absolutely incredible" to play as well and finish as well.
"This tournament never ceases amaze me. This is the most happy I've ever been on a course of golf."
