After being struck by Bryson deChabmeau's wild shot at the Ryder Cup, the fan is soothed.

DeChambeau (28 years old) unleashed a drive towards the left of the green at par-4's first hole. It came down onto a grass verge, where many spectators were sitting.

As an act of pity, the 2020 US Open champion gave her a signed golf club as an apology.

Sam Farmer, a reporter for the LA Times, is covering the event. He said that the woman was not seriously hurt.

Farmer tweeted: "Talked with the Indianapolis woman who was plucked by Bryson Dechambeau’s opening drive.

"Thing came screaming from hot after 330 meters and drilled her ankle.

"She was fine, and got a signed golf club for her efforts." It was like she had won the lottery.

DeChambeau's shouting was drowned out by the crowd, so nobody could hear him shout 'fore'. This is the traditional call to warn anyone who moves in the flight of a ball of golf.

DeChambeau was able to focus again after the incident and hit a stunning up-and-down birdie to halves the opening hole.

He missed the morning foursomes but was sent out to the afternoon fourballs with Scottie Scheffler in order to face Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton.
