The green was covered in empty cups

Argentine golfer Grillo stepped up to the course’s iconic 16th hole and produced an incredible shot in front of 17,000 fans.

Grillo’s ball flew through the air and dropped directly into the hole, without bouncing or rolling around the rim.

It sparked crazy scenes with the player throwing his club and jumping into a hug with his caddie and playing partner Rafael Campos and Seamus Power.

Delighted fans threw their cups of beer in celebration and a booze shower could be seen raining down from the stands.

Hundreds of plastic cups covered the green and tee areas, with Grillo doing a good job to avoid getting soaked.

Hopeful stewards waved at the supporters to stop, but they paid no attention to their pleas as the cups continued to fly.

Workers quickly appeared with huge bin bags to clear up the mess.

Joy from fans spread to social media, with one saying: “That is legendary stuff right there.”

Another added: “The perfect place to do it.”

A third commented: “It’s the Waste Management Phoenix Open, a win-win all around.”

Grillo’s jaw-dropping hole-in-one on the 16th par three was not enough to see him climb the leaderboard and he sits joint 62nd heading into the final day of the PGA Tour event.

Thomas Detry is out in front on -12 ahead of Michael Kim and Alex Smalley on -9.
