Watch Hideki Matsuyama, Masters champ, hit a wayward drive that shocked fans and then settle in his shirt at FedEx Cup

After signing the ball, the Japanese golfer continues to play a -6 second round.

To ensure that the ball did not get lost, Matsuyama had to keep the spectator still as he made his way from the tee.

The man was captured saying, via a PGA Tour microphone: "It went between my legs, hit my knee and then somehow rolled up in my shirt."

Matsuyama, the 2021 Masters winner, then took the ball out of the fan's shirt and signed it for him.

The poor shot by the Japanese golfer, aged 29, was not enough to end a string of five consecutive birdies from the fifth through the ninth holes.

Matsuyama still holds a good position through two of the four rounds of The Northern Trust competition at Liberty National Golf Course, New Jersey.

After scoring a score of 65 in his second round, he is currently at T25 through 36 holes. He is now at -5 overall.

This despite the fact that the spectator's shirt was found inside at the tenth.

After a fantastic -5 through the first nine holes, things started to unravel after the shot at the tenth.

ATRIPLE-BOGEYAt the 18th, he had a -3 round 68 to be at -5 overall. He was also T25 at half-way in The Northern Trust competition. This is seven shots behind the lead.

John Rahm, the US Open winner, is currently at the top of the pile with -12. Tony Finau is in second.

Matsuyama was Japan's first male Major Champion in April and won the dramatic 2021 Masters at Augusta.

He was highly tipped to win the gold medal at his Tokyo Olympics earlier this summer. However, he lost in heartbreaking fashion.

Matsuyama was part aSIXIn a play-off between Hideki Matsuyama and Rory McIlroy, bronze was up for grabs, but it was CT Pan from Chinese Taipei that won the bronze.

Xander Schauffele won gold for the USA and Rory Sabbatini, Slovakia, took home silver.
