Tiger Woods was afraid he would never walk again after he suffered a serious injury in a car accident.

Tiger Woods, a GOLF legend, feared he wouldn't be able to walk again after a horrific car accident that left him with a broken leg.

Woods suffered compound fractures in his right leg, and a broken ankle as a result of the February accident. This put an end to his chances of playing golf again.

Woods looks forward to competing in The Open

The Masters saw the American return to golf in April.

Woods sustained serious leg injuries in a car accident in February 2013.

After the accident, woods were placed on crutches.

After intense rehabilitation, he decided to play a few events per year and played the weekend at The Masters in March.

Woods played then at the US PGA Championship.

The pain in his right leg caused by a strain on his right leg led to the American withdrawing after three rounds.

He also missed the US Open last week.

The 46-year old is determined to play at St Andrews on Thursday where he won his first two Claret Jugs.

Woods will join a group that also includes Matt Fitzpatrick, the US Open champion, and Max Homa.

On Tuesday, he stated that he was afraid of losing his ability to walk again.

"But lo and behold! I played championship golf this season.

"And once it dawned on me that I could play at a high-level level, I set my sights to return to St Andrews to participate in this historic championship.

"I didn't want the Open to be missed at the home of golf.

"This has meant so many things to me. This is where I achieved the career Grand Slam.

"At that time, I held the record for scoring in all four major championships. It meant a lot to my life. This venue has meant so much to me.

"I can remember coming to this area, my first practice round. I was shocked at how difficult it is. I had played every hole into wind.

"I was lucky enough to see the tide turn, so I played every hole in the wind. These par-fours can be driven anywhere.

This is not what people claim. It changes all of a sudden, and I see that these bunkers are in play.

"It's incredible the ingenuity they had back then that this course has stood the test the test of time to all the best players."

Woods said that The Open feels more historic than usual as it celebrates 150 Years.

He said, "It does." It feels more historical than it usually does.

It's hard for me to believe that we are returning to the home of golf. Every time we have the chance to play here, it is history.

"But there's so many things going on this week. To be able yesterday to play with Lee Buck, to hear him talking the whole time over every shot while he hits the shot, and just be able have that kind of experience.

"And tonight, we're going have our Champions Dinner because it's only done here.

"It's difficult to believe that it's been 150 year since we played this tournament. It's amazing, the history and the champions who have won here.

"As I stated, it's difficult to believe that it's more historical, but it is. It feels like this. It does feel like the largest Open Championship we have ever seen."
