Ryder Cup stars Padraig Harrington, Sergio Garcia and Sergio Garcia are hoping to end a long-standing feud and prevent DeChambeau or Koepka tensions

RYDERCUP captain Padraig Hrrington hopes that he and Spanish star Sergio Garcia will end their rivalry for Team Europe.

They are well-known to have had a frosty romance, with the Northern Irishman 50 calling the 41-year old a "sore loser" in the past.

Padraig Harrington of Team Europe gave Sergio Garcia a wildcard selection, despite their past differences.

Harrington gave Garcia, the Ryder Cup's most successful player, a wildcard to Justin Rose.

Harrington once stated about Garcia, "I'm very strong in the etiquette, so I don’t tolerate people spitting into the hole, throwing their shoes, or throwing golf clubs."

"That would have been my attitude and it would be very clear from where I came. We then went to the majors, and he beat me at the majors.

"I gave him everything I could at the 2007 Open.

"I tried to be polite and generous, but he was a terrible loser and he continues to be so."

"So clearly, after those, we have had very sticky wickets."

The Golf Channel interviewed him last week, and he said that Sergio and I would be an interesting case. Evidently, we've been rivals almost throughout our careers.

"It's well-publicised, we wouldn't necessarily be able to get on. The Ryder Cup is much more than that. It's been probably good for us both.

Sergio is a great golfer. I have always appreciated his game and the positive energy he brings to the Ryder Cup.

"It's easier to be captain, but I know Sergio does a good job. It's helped our relationship." We share a common goal, and we work towards it."

Garcia, who will be appearing in the Ryder Cup for the fourth time in a decade after his 1999 debut, stated that he and Harrington are now on better terms.

He spoke to Telegraph Sport and said that he believes the relationship has improved over the past four to five years, and that he now enjoys spending time with his wife.

"And I blame myself because I was young and wanted to win majors. He got a few majors from him and it made me feel bad.

"But, he was a competitor like me and wanted me to win, so it was not wrong from his perspective.

"But once you get to the Ryder Cup, you think about all that and wrap your arms around one another - or at least, that is what we do on each side."

His last comment was a sneaky dig about Team USA's Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau, who were picked by Steve Stricker despite differences.

They are well-known for being one of the most fierce golf rivals, with both having had their fair share of scrapes over the years.

Stricker hopes DeChambeau, Koepka will take a page from Garcia and Harrington as the US team aims to win only their third Ryder Cup since 1999.
