McIlroy finished tied 24th at the Genesis Invitational at the Riviera Country Club

He gave his insight on players on the tour, expert advice on holes, and details that live TV viewers could not witness at home.

Fans reacted with delight at his appearance and were impressed with his pundit skills on the mic at the PGA Tour event.

“Great segment guys! Well done!” one said.

“He did a great job. Thanks Rory!!” another replied.

“I thought this was actually pretty awesome,” one said.

“He had some great takes on other golfers while they were playing, offered his knowledge of the hole.

“All in all it was good to see him in the booth talking about something he is an expert on.”

“This is good. Hope he does it more when he retires!” another enthusiastic fan said.

McIlroy went on to finish tied 24th at the Genesis Invitational.

He had a final-round finish of -1 and -5 under for the tournament as a whole.

The competition was won by Japanese star Hideki Matsuyama, who ended on -17.

McIlroy had some advice on commentary for world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who is struggling at present.

He was asked by CBS Sports’ Amanda Renner what he would tell the American superstar.

“I’ve certainly been through my fair share of putting woes over the years,” the world No. 2 said.

“I finally feel like I’ve broken through and become a pretty consistent putter.

“For me, going to a mallet was a big change.

“I really persisted with the blade putter for a long time.”

“I just feel like your stroke has to be so perfect to start the ball on line, where the mallet just gives you a little bit more margin for error,” he added.

“I’d love to see Scottie try a mallet.

“Selfishly for me, Scottie does everything else so well that he’s given the rest of us a chance.”
