Rory McIlroy, an emotional golfer, broke down as he apologized to Europe teammates for the poor performance at Whistling Straits.

Paige Spirinac, a former woman's pro, has responded to the heartbreaking interview.

The 32-year old Northern Irishman beat Xander Schauffele in Sunday's single's match. He was still winless going into the final day and couldn't contain his emotions when he reacted to his performance.

He stated, "I should've done more for them [my teammates] this week."

"I am glad that I scored a point, but I cannot wait to have another chance at it."

Spirinac however, was quick to use social media to support the winner of four majors.

To her nearly half-a million followers, the 28-year old tweeted: "We don’t deserve Rory." This is a great class act.

Spirinac won one professional tournament in 2016. He quit playing professionally and became a social media personality, with more than three million Instagram followers.

However, it appears that not everyone was as compassionate towards McIlroy than Spirinac.

One golf fan responded to her by saying, "He's a great professional, but he was terrible all week." Tears don't hide the performance.

Another simply stated: "Embarrassing actually!"

McIlroy was defended by the overwhelming majority of his fans after a difficult year.

He was not able to make it at the Masters in April and could only finish at T46 at the Open in August.

McIlroy was able to finish in the top ten at the US Open in June but hasn't won a major since 2014 Open at Royal Liverpool.

Spirinac was supported by a fan who wrote: "Simply an amazing human being @McIlroyRory."

Another person praised Team Europe's passion, saying "Just means more to the Europeans ....." It was a great moment of honesty on television.

"Hope @McIlroyRory is back strong next year. #Class #RyderCup2020."

A supportive fan exclaimed: "He is a true sportsman, and a great voice to the game of golf."

The USA beat Team Europe 19-9 at Whistling Straits, a Ryder Cup record-breaking thrashing.

McIlroy wasn't the only European who wept at the end of the play.

In what may have been his last appearance at the Ryder Cup, Ian Poulter, Ryder Cup legend, also wept.

After a losing weekend, Tony Finau was defeated 3&2 by the Postman in Sunday's singles.

USA! stars were meanwhile drinking beer and singing the chants "USA!" USA! USA!' From the 40,000 strong Whistling Straits crowd.

This is the USA's third victory in the competition's ten previous editions, but it's one of the most impressive Ryder Cup results.
