He only nudged it one inch, which left the putt disappointingly short of the hole.

In a remarkable moment Rahm slowed down on his follow through and managed to knock the ball only one inch.

He ended up needlessly making a bogey, a frustrating moment for the 2021 US Open champion.

After his round, the Spaniard stated that he wished he could give him all the excuses possible.

"It just didn’t feel right in my hands, so I tried to stop and it didn’t.

"I simply couldn't stop. It's not clear. It was quite strange."

It was his shortest miss putt on the PGA Tour.

He finished the day at two-under par for this tournament, seven shots behind Viktor Hovland, the Norwegian leader.

One social media user responded to the shocking miss by saying: "Bet that he was fuming the rest of the days after that."

Another fan was startled and added, "Jon Rahm just made the worst putt in Golf History."

A third participant said, "I can't even see that Rahm putt again." It makes me anxious."
