Inside the abandoned golf course designed by LIV chief Greg Norman left overgrown but still on sale for £13million

GREG NORMAN is renowned the world over for his stunning golf course designs.

The LIV golf chief is perhaps the biggest success story of an athlete-turned-businessman, with over 100 courses to his name.

However, one of Norman’s courses has been left in a state of disrepair after being abandoned.

Sitting just 50 miles outside of Los Angeles, CA, USA, the former Golf Club of Vellano has become an overgrown husk of a golf course.

The club occupies a whopping 269 acres of land in Chino Hills and has a 45,000-square-foot clubhouse.

It facilitates activities such as swimming, billiards and general fitness, while also having a banquet hall.

But having opened in 2006, the course struggled financially before it was eventually shut in May 2018.

The closure came without warning, and just 24 hours after members of the homeowners’ association informed their board they did not want residential development on the golf course.

Michael Konrad, then president of the homeowners’ association, said: “We’ve joined the ranks of communities that have been abused by Western Golf Properties.

“We were told they would close the golf course if we did not support their desires.”

The 18-hole private course – which also sits at 1,000 feet of elevation – is now up for sale for a whopping £13.7million.

The maintenance buildings are also up for sale separately for £7.8m.

There are even 175 properties on the outskirts of the course up for £4.2m, while empty lots are also up for sale for around £760,000.

However, any buyer would likely need to invest in a lawn mower due to the intense grass-cutting operation required.

Original designer Norman, 69, has a net worth of £305m.

His courses range across 34 countries and six continents, including South Africa, Ireland, Vietnam, Egypt, Australia, Argentina, Colombia, South Korea, China, Mexico and the UAE.
