Henrik Stenson: "I played like an captain" - Ryder Cup chiefs hit back after winning on LIV Golf debut

HENRIK STENSON couldn't resist taking a look at Ryder Cup chiefs following his PS3.3million LIV win.

After joining the new Saudi-backed rebel circuit, the Swedish golf star was stripped his Team Europe captaincy.

Henrik Stenson returned to winning form in his LIV debut at New Jersey

The 46-year old looked content after he received his LIV debut win at Trump National Golf Club in New Jersey.

This will be in addition to the PS40m that he received for breaking his Ryder Cup contract.

It means that Stenson now has the kind of earning potential that Greg Norman's new venture is seeing increase in top players joining it.

According to reports, Luke Donald from England is being considered for the Ryder Cup captain. Stenson used the opportunity to poke fun at his European counterparts in front of the media.

Reporters were told by him: "I guess we all can agree that I played like a captain."

He said, "It's been an enjoyable first week, obviously."

"It has been a hectic ten days, and I'm proud to have managed to stay focused as well as I did.

"It was a bit wobbly coming back here, we haven’t completed a deal in a few years with any wins.

The 2016 Open champion won the 2019 Hero World Challenge at the PGA Tour.

He was appointed Ryder Cup Europe Captain for next year by Marco Simone Golf and Country Club, Rome four months ago.

He said last week that he didn't agree with the decision to remove him from his position after his departure to LIV.
