Fredrik Andersson, 49, has died from cancer. The European Tour champion dies as the golf world remembers Swede

Fredrik Andersson, a Swedish golfer, has been awarded TRIBUTES. He had died at the age 49.

The 2010 Italian Open champion had been diagnosed with cancer.

He was born in Halmstad, a Swedish port city. He leaves behind Anna and their children Viggo and Molly.

Thomas Bjorn, European Tour star, was among many who left a tribute on Twitter.

Tweeted The Dane: "I'm so deeply disturbed by this.

"Freddie was a true professional and will be greatly missed by all of us.

"A great ambassador for the game and for Sweden.

"Thoughts are with Anna Viggo, Molly and Viggo at this moment."

Online condolences were also sent by Scott Drummond, Graeme Storm, and Paul McGinley to fellow golfers.

Andersson Hed became a professional in 1992 after a long and successful amateur career.

He won two Challenge Tour events, and spent the majority of the decade on the European Tour.

Keith Waters, chief operating officer of the European Tour, stated that Fredrik was loved by everyone in golf, including our Scandinavian players and staff.

"Our hearts are with them during this very sad time."
