What's the Ryder Cup made of?

The Ryder Cup trophy, first presented in 1927 by Samuel Ryder, was ordered by an English seed merchant.

Two teams from Europe and the USA compete for the title of champion on Sunday evening.

The cup is made of gold and costs PS250 at the time it was first ordered. It now costs around PS15,000.

It was manufactured by Mappin & Webb and measures 17 inches in height.

The first award of the trophy was in 1927. It is made from gold.

A figure is placed on top of the trophy, which Ryder often misunderstands to be himself.

It is believed to be Abe Mitchell, a 1920s golf star who was friend and later golf instructor to Ryder.

The replica trophy is given to the winner side, while the original is kept at the PGA headquarters.
