Watch Jordan Spieth make a chip shot from an impossible position, almost causing him to fall into LAKE at Ryder Cup

JORDAN SPIETH was an early contender in the 2021 Ryder Cup best shot award. However, he almost had to take a bath during the round.

After Justin Thomas' approach shot missed the 17th green, American ace Ryan O'Connor was left in a precarious situation.

Spieth quickly lost his balance and was sent charging down steep verge

Spieth was left on dangerously steep verges, with long grass up to his ankles and no view of the green.

The former world No1 managed to hit his wedge within feet of the green, a remarkable feat of golfing skill.

Spieth lost his balance quickly after the shot was made and fell down the hill.

To prevent himself from falling, the US star kept his legs moving while he walked closer to Lake Michigan.

Spieth was able, fortunately, to stop himself in time.

Thomas, Thomas' American partner, missed the putt. Team Europe pair Jon Rahm & Sergio Garcia won the foursome 3&1 to win the rare victory for the visitors at the 2021 Ryder Cup. They fell to a 6-2 deficit.

Spieth finally caught himself and took a plunge in Lake Michigan.

Spieth, after his round, revealed that his little run down the hill was not for show but for self-preservation.

American stated: "I don’t think I exaggerated the fall, you know that it is steep.

"Once I began moving, I was like, "I've got to continue moving until I find an apartment."

It's one those shots you do as a child for fun, but you don't want it to be your final shot.

"And the chances it going there - You could roll a thousand ball off the green, and it won't stay where it was."

Even Garcia, a Team Europe rival, admitted that he couldn't help but to watch and applaud the amazing feat of golfing skill.

The Spaniard replied, "I was clapping. He hit an incredible shot, and I was hoping he wouldn’t hurt himself.

"I didn’t believe there was any chance he could get it onto the green."
