Hideki Matsuyama hit three balls in the water at the same hole

Matsuyama, 30 years old, hit three balls in water on the same hole.

He walked away with a quadruple-bogey NINE on his par five 18th green.

When he reached the 18th green, the 2021 Masters champion was just one over par.

He smashed his driver off the tee but looked concerned as the ball traveled right.

His ball made one more hop in the rough before landing in the lake.

Matsuyama attempted to be aggressive with his third shot, which he took from the bank side near where he was.

His fairway wood was only 30 yards short of dry land, so he plopped it in the lake once more.

Hideki failed to learn from his fifth shot. He missed the green by inches.

To make matters worse, he missed his seventh shot and ended up with a difficult chip back.

Matsuyama did an excellent job of getting it up and down so that there were only four missed shots.

He hit the turn and played the nine-hole hole at five over par.

According to American reports, Matsuyama may be heading for LIV rebel series according to some reports.

This would be another coup for the Saudi-backed series, which has created a large divide in professional golf.

Henrik Stenson, Europe Ryder Cup captain, has joined the series. Cameron Smith, Open champion has also been linked.

Next week, LIV's third event takes place at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster (New Jersey).
