Tiger Woods announces that he's not playing in this month's US Open due to injury. He plans to return to The Open at St Andrews in July.

TIGER WOODS announced that he has been injured and is unable to participate in the US Open this year.

The Major will play on June 16, but the American legend won't be there.

The Open star is hopeful of returning to action at St Andrews next week.

Twitter user, 46 year old, broke the news by stating: "I had previously told the USGA that I would not compete in the @usopengolf because my body needs more time for major championship golf.

"I hope and plan to be available to play in Ireland at @JPProAm next month and @TheOpen."

"I'm eager to get back out there!"

Between July 10-17, the 150th Open Championship will be held at St Andrews.

After being forfeited in the US Open qualifier, a golf fan shot 40-over-par.

Woods withdrew after the third round of the PGA Championship and has now won the major three times.

Although he submitted his entry for the US Open prior to the April deadline, the PGA Tour stated that it did not necessarily indicate that he would be playing.

After a single-car accident in February last year, the 15-time major champion sustained multiple injuries.

He sustained open fractures to the upper and lower parts of his right leg, as well as additional injuries to his foot.

His ankle required screws and pins to be inserted.

Greg Norman reports that Woods turned down a $1billion offer from Saudi Arabia to join LIV Golf Series.

Norman, 67, was a former golfer and is now the face of Saudi Golf. He is responsible for recruiting some of the most well-known players to the new series.

Persuading players is difficult because of the possibility that they will be banned from the PGA tour if their participation in the LIV Golf series.

However, some high-profile figures will make the move including Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson - they both will be signed on to fees of PS100million.

However, Woods' landing is difficult with big-money offers not tempting the golf icon.
