Three golfers with combined net worth of PS175m looking to invest in Leeds amid 49ers Takeover

THREE of the PGA Tour’s top golfers have confirmed that they will be a part of the 49ers Enterprise takeover of Leeds United.

Rickie Fowler broke the news that he, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas are all looking to invest in the club when practicing ahead of the upcoming US Open.

Jordan Spieth is the richest of the trio

Justin Thomas is also involved in the deal

Last week the club announced that Andrea Radrizzani would sell his 56% stake in the club to the American consortium.

It is believed that the deal to sell Leeds to 49ers Enterprises is worth £175million.

As of yet, the golfers are not a part of the deal but are hoping to buy-in.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Fowler said: “There’s the group that’s moving forward with being involved with Leeds – myself, JT (Justin Thomas) and Jordan (Spieth), so potentially we’ll be a part of it.

“It’s cool to have these opportunities. I know we’re looking into it, and it would be fun if we get to be a part of it, if not we’ll continue to root for Leeds.”

Fowler was asked if he would be following in the footsteps of Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney by actively attending games.

He said: “Obviously they got relegated but to get to go to a Premier League game, a Champions League game any of that (would be great)”

“It’s called football over there, we call it soccer here but it’s a massive sport and I feel like it is continuing to get bigger in the states.

“Since I haven’t been to a game, I don’t have the true appreciation until (I get to) be there and feel that energy.”

The three golfers would join the consortium as minority owners as part of 49ers Enterprises, who own NFL team The San Francisco 49ers.

Fowler, Spieth and Thomas have a combined net worth of £175m.

The richest of the three is world number 10 Spieth, who has a net worth of £95m.

Following Spieth is Justin Thomas who has a net worth of £47m.

Finally there is the man that confirmed the trio’s interest in Leeds, Rickie Fowler, who has a net worth of £31.5m.

Andrea Radrizzani’s reign at Leeds ended bitterly, with the Italian refusing to attend Leeds’ final home game of the season which saw them lose 4-0 to Spurs and be relegated to the Championship.

Fans chanted against Radrizzani throughout.

49ers Enterprises have been involved in the club since the San Franciso 49ers bought a 15% stake in Leeds in 2018.
