The incident took place at Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake

He is said to have been arrested during the first round of the prestigious competition.

It is the final golf major of the year with stars such as Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler competing.

The man is seen wearing a black bag and a jumper tied round his waist at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake.

And he was pictured putting his hands up to the camera as cops frogmarched him out.

One police officer with a dog is also seen nearby as the man was led away.

At this moment it is unconfirmed as to why the man was arrested with police being contacted for comment.

The four-day event saw the world’s top stars tee off with thousands of golf fans gathering in anticipation.

Defending champ Cam Smith is hoping to outdo World No.1 Scottie Scheffler on day one.

While McIlroy is eyeing a first Open triumph since 2011.

The 17th hole on the course has been the talk of the golfing world this week with Hoylake groundstaff creating a brutal hole for the stars.

Ticket holders at the course filled up the stand beside the 17th green hours before the players reached it – just so they would not miss the drama.
