Ryder Cup golfers reject offers of up to PS50million to join Jon Rahm’s LIV team

TWO of Jon Rahm’s Ryder Cup team-mates – Tommy Fleetwood, and Nicolai Hojgaard – have turned down £50million offers to join his new LIV team.

But Tyrrell Hatton, another member of the European team that put the Yanks to the sword in Rome, remains a target for the the Saudi-backed breakaway league, who shelled out a whopping £476million to land world No 3 Rahm.

Rahm and Hatton formed a potent partnership in Rome, and have become close friends.

Hatton says he has no intention of joining LIV. But they are certain to test his resolve with a huge cheque, and are also likely to come back with improved offers for Fleetwood and Hojgaard.

Despite the ongoing merger talks with the PGA and DP World Tours, LIV remains determined to bolster its own roster of players before their new season starts in Mexico on February 2.

They are desperate to provide Rahm with some high powered back-up when he tees off in Mayakoba – but now have less than two weeks to provide him with three team-mates.

Sources close to Fleetwood and Hojgaard confirmed they had been approached, with Nicolai’s twin  – three time DP World Tour winner Rasmus – also on the LIV wish list.

All four of the LIV targets are playing at the Dubai Desert Classic this week, and the locker room has been buzzing with talk that the Saudis will continue to test their loyalty.

If the Europeans stick to their guns, they would join the likes of US Open champion Wyndham Clark and another high profile American star, Tony Finau in rejecting huge offers from LIV.
