The Northern Irishman finished second to Scottie Scheffler with an EIGHT below par round of 64. This included a spectacular birdie at the 18.
McIlroy was able to escape from the bunker using a miracle shot
Wild scenes erupted at the 18th Green when McIlroy's shot in
McIlroy might not have won that elusive green jacket but he said Sunday was his best day on the course.
McIlroy made it to the last tee box unbogeyed after birdying the first, third, 7th, 8th, 10th, and 13th holes.
The 32-year old was in trouble when his shot from the tee found a bunker to his left and his approach shot also hit the sand to his right.
It looked like he was going to be able to save par by putting a putt and making a difficult chip onto green.
He would not have been expected to escape from the bunker.
This is what the four-time major winner did.
McIlroy placed a delicate chip on the green about 30-feet away from the pin. However, he used the slope at 18th to his advantage.
As the ball approached the hole, it arced to the left.
McIlroy was delighted when it finally dropped in, and began to celebrate.

Augusta patrons also loved it, singing "Rory Rory Rory", after McIlroy's incredible shot. They were able to score a sixth birdie and remain bogey-free.
He finished the week at -7, and he headed in as the clubhouse leader. Scheffler was still out on the course but the American held his nerve and claimed the green jacket on 10 with a final round of 71.
McIlroy was second at Augusta, after posting a Sunday -8 round 64.
McIlroy was however just one shot away from the course record with his amazing 64 on the last day.
Even though he didn't complete the Grand Slam of majors he finished second, which is his best Masters finish.
McIlroy stated that he hoped to be in a position one day soon after finishing his round.
