Rory McIlroy wins battle to build playground and massive swimming pool at £9m mega mansion after shock split with wife

LOVE split golfer Rory Mcllroy has won his battle to build a huge outdoor swimming pool and play centre at his £9million Surrey mansion.

The luxury pad already boasts a massive 44ft-long party and entertainment room, cinema, gym and indoor pool with spa next to a golf course.

The family of three appear to be living the dream as a picture perfect little unit

But behind the scenes all was not well as the couple have since announced their divorce

Now he wants to splash out on a 50x16ft outdoor pool and timber climbing frame for three-year-old daughter Poppy after filing for divorce from wife Erica Stoll.

But he landed in hot water with officials at the local council as his home, on an exclusive estate, lies in a designated green belt area with stricter planning laws.

Mcllroy’s lavish home also boasts a grand entrance hall, six reception rooms, double aspect drawing room, family room, breakfast room, snug, study and office.

Land Registry records show that he and Erica bought the pad for £8.9million in January last year.

In The Bunker recently revealed that the star spent between £10m and £14m developing the property.

But the world number two has now filed for divorce from Erica, saying the marriage has “irretrievably broken”.

Documents filed in the US where the couple lived, showed the four-time major champ and Erica signed a pre-nuptial agreement before they wed in 2017.

They also revealed the couple had agreed to a “shared parental responsibility” for Poppy who was born in Florida.

Mcllroy, worth around £200million, was previously granted planning permission for a dining and utility room extension at his Surrey home, a new roof and internal alterations.

Officials at the local council have now given the go-ahead for the outdoor pool, play centre and 5ft-high water feature wall after there were no objections from neighbours.

Other famous residents who live nearby include footballers Harry Kane and Andriy Shevchenko, former cricketer Kevin Pietersen and fitness guru Joe Wicks.

The pair began dating in 2015 having known each other from sports circles since 2011

Alongside Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus, Rory McIIroy is one of three players to win four majors by the age of 25
