RORY MCILROY was quick to show off his wit following his Scottish Open win yesterday.
The Northern Irishman managed to hold on to secure victory despite a strong showing from Scot Bob McIntyre in the final round.
McIlroy engaged with fans after his Scottish open victory
McIlroy showed his resolve by delivering birdies on the final two holes to secure his first ever Scottish open victory.
Bathing in the afterglow of his victory, McIlroy bantered with fans after the trophy presentation.
A delighted punter was heard saying: “Rory, you won me 300 pounds!”
To which McIlroy chuckled and said: “I won a wee bit more!”
The punter then congratulated McIlroy, saying: “I’m happy for you mate!”
“A wee bit more” might have been a bit of an understatement given the Northern Irishman is set to pocket £1.35million in prize money for winning the tournament.
It has also given him a welcome confidence boost as he enters this week’s Open tournament in Liverpool.
McIlroy is among the favourites at the tournament as he looks to end his nine-year-wait for a major.

The 34-year-old currently has five major titles and has had a number of near-misses in recent years as he’s looked to end his drought.
Speaking after his victory, McIlroy said: “It feels incredible.
“It’s been a sort of long six months, I feel, since I won in Dubai.
“I’ve given myself tons of chances and hopefully this win sort of breaks the seal for me, especially going into next week.
“I don’t feel like it really proves anything. I don’t feel like I need to prove anything in my career but it’s satisfying to know that for me that I can still do it.
“It’s nice to have the validation. It’s great racking up top fives, top 10s, but it’s much nicer heading away with a trophy on Sunday afternoon. It’s a great shot of confidence.”
