McIlroy (33), was participating in the third round BMW Championship when the incident occurred.

The ball began to move by itself amusingly with the cheeky prankster controlling the ball remotely from the sides.

McIlroy, however, failed to see the fun side of McIlroy during the FedEx Cup playoffs' second tournament.

McIlroy tried to stop the ball from bouncing around his feet with his putter.

He won when the fan failed him to direct the ball into the hole.

McIlroy stared at the wag, before throwing the gadget with all he had.

It was clear where he intended to throw it.

Security escorted the prankster who was controlling the ball away

This is because the ball landed directly in an open lake of water near the course.

McIlroy watched as the remote-controlled ball owner became upset.

The comedian was not able to protest, as security quickly descended on the scene before dragging him off the green.

As he was being taken away, the man was mocked by the crowd.

McIlroy was not ready for the moment and he missed his birdie on the hole.

He pulled it back later to complete the round with a 70.

McIlroy is only five shots behind leader Patrick Cantlay.
