PIERS MORGAN and Paige Spiranac were both left baffled after Rickie Fowler conceded a putt to hand the Ryder Cup to Europe.
Tommy Fleetwood became the European hero on Sunday as he secured the winning point to take his side past the magical 14.5 number in Rome.
Rickie Fowler conceded a putt to Tommy Fleetwood to hand Europe the Ryder Cup
Paige Spiranac was appalled by Fowler’s decision
The golf influencer felt Fleetwood should have been made to putt in to claim his win
But Fowler made it easy for the Brit – by not even making him hole the crucial putt!
The USA came into Sunday’s play with a huge 5-point deficit to make up, meaning every match was critical.
And a strong fightback in the afternoon had the Europeans getting nervous.
Fleetwood had got off to a better start and went ahead after the second hole – a lead he never relinquished.
He grabbed a two-up lead on the tenth and, by the time the match reached the 16th hole, Europe needed just half a point to clinch victory, with John Rahm, Viktor Hovland, Rory McIlory and Tyrell Hatton all scoring points earlier in the day.
That meant Fleetwood needed just to avoid losing the hole to guarantee the winning half point.
A magnificent drive put him in position and by the time he reached the green he had two putts for glory.
Fleetwood left his first putt four foot short or the hole, leaving a nervy tiddler for the win.

But Fowler instead conceded, giving Europe the trophy.
Piers was shocked by the gimme, and labelled Fowler “bonkers” for giving up the game.
He tweeted: “I wouldn’t concede this putt to one of my sons, let alone to gift the opposition a Ryder Cup. It’s not ‘good sportsmanship’, it’s bonkers.”
Paige, who is a big fan of Fowler, agreed with Piers‘ view and criticised the American for his concession.
She wrote: “I know Rickie is a nice guy but you don’t concede that putt.”
The golf influencer also shared a meme poking fun at the golfer, who failed to score a single point in Rome.
