According to a new biography, PHIL MICKELSON lost $40 million in gambling over a period of four years.
The 51-year-old US golf star is currently on an unofficial sabbatical and missed the first Masters tournament in 28 year's time in April.

A new book examines the financial situation of the six-time Major winner who was awarded his last major gong at 2021's PGA Championship.
It was written by lan Shipnuck (ex-journalist for Sports Illustrated Golf), and claims Mickelson lost a staggering $40 million in gambling between 2010 & 2014.
Shipnuck believes that the golfer earned north of this amount every year during his legendary career.

He believes Mickelson could have been in trouble despite the huge earnings from tournament wins or sponsorship deals.
In his book 'Phil, The Rip-Roaring (and unauthorized!)! Biography of Golf’s Most Colorful Superstar' Shipnuck stated that "Phil: The Rip-Roaring (and Unauthorized!)" is the key to understanding Mickelson's style of play as a player.
It might also explain Saudi seduction.
His income in those prime years was just above $40 million per year.
"That's an outrageous amount of money. But once he paid his taxes, including the California tariffs that he publically railed against), he was left only with low-20s.
'THE T-REX SKULL WAS A GIFT'
"Then, he had to cover his plane, mansions, agent, caddie pilots, chefs, personal trainers, swing coaches, and any other expenses.
"Add all other costs to a big lifestyle, such as a T. Rex skull for a birthday gift, and you have $10 million.
According to the government audit, this is roughly Mickelson's annual gambling loss average. We don't even know what we don’t know.
Mickelson is well-known for his love of high life. He has a net worth of approximately $400 million as of 2022, and a large real estate portfolio.
This includes a plot in Jupiter, Florida, where he has Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, and Dustin Johnson as neighbors.
Mickelson also has a remarkable $42m Gulfstream private plane and even a pilot's license.
The aircraft is more like a house than a plane. It has two bathrooms and two bedrooms.
His most unusual possession is, however, a T-Rex skull that he received as a birthday present from Amy in 2008.
Golf Digest 2009, Phil said that it was Amy's birthday gift to him.

Mickelson was seen practicing his game after Lefty had been reported to have defended his title at this month's PGA Championship.
Steve Loy, his agent, stated in a statement that Phil currently does not have any concrete plans for when or where he will play.
