Millionaire golfer accused of burning down his home with his dog inside

A MILLIONAIRE golf pro has been accused of torching his marital home.

Francis McGuirk, 49, who played in the 2011 Open, allegedly set fire to it while cavapoo dog Dottie was inside.

Golfer Francis McGuirk has been charged with arson and a separate assault charge

Firefighters rescued the dog and a man, believed to be McGuirk, was taken to hospital for suspected smoke inhalation and burns.

Four crews spent two hours putting out the blaze at the £700,000 home.

He shared the property with wife Sarah, 48, and their three teenage daughters in Sandwich, Kent.

McGuirk, now of Sevenoaks, has since been charged with arson following the blaze on June 25.

He was also charged with assault in relation to a separate incident a week earlier.

He was bailed to appear before Margate magistrates’ court on November 16.

McGuirk was once ranked among the top 700 golfers in the world.

He finished second in the English Challenge tournament in 2012, ahead of a field including Brooks Koepka
