MATT FITZPATRICK is very likely to become the first English golfer in the USPGA Championship after he has been able to make it at Southern Hills.
Fitzptarick will be the first Major winner. It would also mark the second time that he has crossed a more than 100-year gap to win one of the most coveted prizes in the game.
Matt Fitzpatrick is in the running to win this year's PGA Championship
In 2013, the Sheffield golfer was the first Englishman in the US Amateur to win it.
He now has a chance at becoming England's first PGFA Champion since Jim Barnes won the Wanamaker Trophy in 1919 for the second consecutive time.
Fitzpatrick (27) made it three rounds in 60s with a three-under par 67, which lifted him to six under for tournament, three shots behind shock leader Mito Perueira, who is from Chile and is playing his second Major.
Surprisingly, none of the top-ranked golfers have ever won a PGA Tour event.

The English ace said: "I'm absolutely buzzing - I've never had the chance to win Major before, so whatever happens, this is going to an amazing experience.
"But even though I finished seventh at the Masters six-years ago, I have won the DP World Tour Championship twice and many other major events in Europe so I know how I can get to the top.
"I managed my emotions well today. After I bogeyed the first two holes, I could have let my frustration get the best of me. But I held it together and was patient.

"I made my first birdie with a bunker shot on five and then followed it up with a great putt of six. I was playing brilliant golf when I got in.
"I was happy to finish birdie-birdie, and the one on 18 was an added bonus. There was a hole where I got a three-wood, four-iron score, and it is one of those holes that you are happy to leave with a par.
"But I hit two fantastic shots and made a nice downhill putt at the back of green. If I can keep this up, I will have every chance."
