Justin Thomas wins the PGA Championship after shooting low in the final round. Will Zalatoris is edging Justin Thomas in nervy playoff

After Mito Pereira's last-hole heartbreak, Justin Thomas raced out of the pack to win his second Major title. The PGA Championship was forced into a three-hole play-off.

Pereira's double par at the 72nd green wiped out his one shot lead and forced Thomas and Will Zalatoris, both Americans, to compete for the title.

After the win, he hugged Jim 'Bones'Mackay.

The fight was not fair, as 2017 champion Thomas bullied a man still looking for his first PGA Tour victory. However, Zalatoris was only Zalatoris second runner up in the Majors - he was second behind Hideki Matsuyama last year's Masters.

Both men birdied hole number 13, the par five, but it was Thomas who took advantage of Thomas's drive to the green at the par 4 17th, 302 yards.

Zalatoris missed the green, and couldn't match his opponent's two-putt birdie. Thomas, 29 years old, was confirmed as a Multiple Major winner by matching pars at the final.

Thomas, 29 years old, started the final round just seven shots behind the lead. Thomas, 29, became the sixth player to overcome a deficit that large and tied the record for the PGA.

It was impossible to not feel sorry for Pereira.

He only had to par the last hole to become the first South American player to win the USPGA.

He stared at the creek in disbelief while he carved the last tee shot, zig-zagging along one side of the fairway.

He managed a six from that point, which dropped him to third place with Cameron Young. His expression said it all.

The Santiago golfer held his head in both his hands as he signed his card and struggled to hold back his tears.

He must have just a few moments earlier imagined how it would feel to hold the huge Wanamaker Trophy.

Thomas deserves our appreciation, but the nerve-shredding Southern Hills shootout that Thomas won will be remembered for being the one that escaped the 100th ranked golfer in the world.

Pereira was not an easy man, but he appeared to have all the answers up until the shocker on the 18th Tee.

After posting back-toback birdies, Zalatoris had taken his overnight lead and walked off the fifth fairway in the penultimate section.

Pereira played the first four holes in a single over and was tied with the American at 8 under par. However, he was only two holes ahead of the American!

He also won the three-hole playoff to cap off his win.

Fitzpatrick clung on to five under as the final stretch ended.

He was struggling to find birdies and a poor bogey at tenth made it two over for the round.

When another shot was taken at 11, his chances of becoming the first Englishman ever to win the PGA had ended.

Tommy Fleetwood could have won that honor if he had displayed the same spark he showed over the weekend in the tournament.

Fleetwood continued a third round 69 with seven birdies in the final round charge. The only problem was that they had four bogeys after the seventh.

His closing round of 67 was still the best of the day. A share of fifth at three under marked a welcome return of form for the Ryder Cup champion.

Mito Pereira suffered a panic attack and scored a double-bogey six on the last hole

Rory McIlroy's final round struggles must have made him madder, as he was back in it in the final round. This is proving that he is the best non-pressure golfer in this game.

McIlroy was nine shots behind 54-hole Pereira and in 17th place. He raced out of the blocks looking like a thief carrying a bag!

Four birdies in succession from the second birdie, the four-time Major champion surged up to a share of fifth and a few more would have the leaders staring nervously into their rearview mirror.

He was unable to play well after a sixth-round bogey. He signed for a two-under par 68th, good enough for another top ten backdoor.
