Inside Masters champion Scottie Scheffler and Meredith's fairytale romance as they prepare to have their first child

FORGET winning The Masters, there was one thing on Scottie Sheffler’s mind as soon as he was presented with the Green Jacket.

With his wife, Meredith expecting their first child imminently he declared: “I’m coming home.

“‘I’ll be home as quick as I can. I love you and I’m coming home!'”

Scheffler had already revealed he would drop everything at a hat at Augusta if she had gone into labour while he was on the course.

Thankfully he didn’t have to make that decision when he was honing in on his second Masters title in just three years.

But that emotional message to Meredith, who works for a non-profit organisation that raises money and awareness for childhood cancer research, showed the close bond they have.

He made sure to FaceTime her, as she was watching the action unfold from home, before

The pair are teenage sweethearts from Texas who are about to embark on a journey of parenthood together for the first time.

Scheffler’s emotion on the 18th must have been coupled with thoughts that he was also about to become a dad.

Away from golf they keep their personal life private.

However, we were given a glimpse into their relationship in Netflix’s Full Swing documentary.

Jersey boy meets Texas gal

Scheffler was originally born in New Jersey, but moved to Dallas, Texas when he was six.

He would eventually go on to play golf at the University of Texas from 2014 to 2018.

It was as a teen he met Meredith for the first time.

Despite going to difference colleges, they made it work and devoted themselves to one another.

After graduating in 2018, Scheffler popped the question in 2020.

At the time, Meredith gushed on social media, ‘YES! I can’t believe God gave me my best friend to spend the rest of my life with.

‘Can’t wait to be your wife, Scottie! Blown away at the Lord’s faithfulness and goodness to us. [LET’S] DO THIS!’

Both religious, they dated for six years before they walked down the aisle.

They said their ‘I do’s’ at Arlington Hall in Dallas. A year later, Scottie would toast his wife on their anniversary.

He wrote on Instagram: “Very grateful for one year of marriage to my best friend! God is good.”

His No1 fan

Soon, as Scheffler began making his name on the PGA Tour, Meredith was a constant by his side.

She was never more prominent than when she appeared on the green at the Masters in 2022, the scene for her husband’s first Major win.

Amusingly, she was spotted smiling and cleaning his clubs as they made their way around Augusta.

In another photo, the pair were seen strolling arm-in-arm like two young lovers at the height of a summer romance.

“First timers at the Par 3 and it definitely lived up to the hype,” he wrote alongside a number of snaps that showed him and Meredith together.

“Mere is still working on cleaning the grooves…”

Just a month before that, when Scottie won the Arnold Palmer Invitational, she wrapped herself in his arms as they celebrated the moment.

Their road hasn’t always been paved in gold.

At last year’s Ryder Cup, a devastated Scottie had to be consoled by Meredith after losing his match to Viktor Hovland and Ludvig Aberg.

Meredith is often by his side for his most successful moments – like at the Arnold Palmer Invitational

“Meredith obviously knows me better than anybody, being my wife,” he told Golf.com.

“She knows how hard it is when I don’t win. So being able to celebrate a win is pretty special, and to have my parents here for this one is extremely cool with all the sacrifices they made growing up. I’m just really pleased.”

The morning of victory

Fast-forward two years, and despite being over a 1,000 miles away and excused for wanting to focus on the final day of play, Scottie made sure he checked in with Meredith on Sunday morning.

Heavily pregnant, she was forced to stay at home.

But, she still had time to give the devout Christian a pep talk over the phone.

He revealed: “‘She just asked if she could pray for me.

“‘My neck was bugging me. I asked her to pray for some healing.”

Whatever was said worked, and he produced a masterclass to see of the challenge of Ludvig Aberg to win by four shots.

For now, the pair will take a moment to reflect on Scottie’s success and then embarking on an entirely different journey.

Scheffler has admitted he can’t wait to be a daddy

He is looking forward to fatherhood and can’t wait to become a parent.

“When it comes to having a kid, every single person says that it changes your life and it’s the most special thing in the world,” he explained.

“Marriage has been such a tremendous aspect of my life, I cannot even imagine what being a parent is going to be like.”
