I am the favourite for this year’s Masters, but I tried to break through my Mercedes window TWICE last season after missing the cut.

MASTERS favourite Brooks Koepka tried to punch through the window of his Mercedes twice after missing the cut last year.

The American leads with a score of 12-under par with play suspended last night due to a storm.

Brooks Koepka is top after day two at the Masters

Koepka has struggled in Augusta, missing the cut in both 2021 and in 2022.

The four-time major winner has had to battle his way past injury issues and frustration boiled over last year.

Koepka revealed: “I don’t even know if I should be saying this, but pretty sure I tried to break the back window of the car with my fist.

“I tried to put it through the back window, not once but twice. First time didn’t go, so figured try it again.

“The window did not break. Apparently (I’m) not strong enough.

“The ride home was pretty silent. But yeah, I guess Mercedes makes a pretty good back window.”

Opening up on his knee troubles, Koepka said: “In 2021 I was just trying to figure out the best areas to walk because this place is quite hilly.

“Downhill was a killer because my knee would get in front of my heel and that’s where the MPFL (medial patellofemoral ligament rupture) that’s stitched is still in there.

“It would just tighten, and everything was quite painful.

“But I don’t have to worry about that any more, which has been great.

“I feel really good. I like the way I’m swinging the golf club, putting it, chipping it, driving it, iron play is solid. It feels really similar.

“I’ve got a completely different knee, but swing-wise it still feels the same. I’m able to do everything I need to and the confidence is there.

“The confidence was lost just because of my knee and that was it.”

Koepka leads Sam Bennett (-8) and Jon Rahm (-9) at the top of the leaderboard.

Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy (+5) is in danger of not making the cut.

Yesterday, trees fell as a result of a huge thunderstorm amid fears the event could have to be extended for five days to catch up on play.
