RYDER CUP hero Viktor Hovland had a moment of madness at The Masters which cost him thousands of pounds.

The Norwegian was six over par heading into Hole 15 in his second round on Friday.

That meant he needed to produce his best golf to have a shot at making the cut, but did the exact opposite.

Hovland’s approach play was flawless as he set up a perfect putting opportunity with a delicate chip onto the green.

All Hovland had to do was sink his ball from two yards out to make par but he lost concentration and missed the hole by inches.

The 26-year-old then lost his head as he went to tap in his ball and missed again, going back to square one.

He eventually putted successfully at the third attempt for a double bogey, before throwing his ball into the lake in frustration.

That meant he hit 81 to finish the day eight over par, which meant he missed the cut which was six over par.

If he had successfully putted at the first attempt Hovland would have made the cut and would have pocketed at least £36,000.

That is if he finished in last place, with The Masters winner taking home £2.6million.

Tiger Woods is still in the running to win at Augusta after making the cut for a record 24th time in a row.

He is one over par after hitting 73 and 72 in his first two rounds.
