But as he prepares for the second major of the season, he revealed it was an awkward moment at home that triggered his back injury earlier in the year.

It was initially reported he had sustained the issue during a practice round, forcing him to withdraw from a tournament in Saudi Arabia in February.

But asked how he picked up the problem, Johnson said: “I just pulled a muscle… lower back.”

But the former world No1 golf ace appeared a little suspicious and the reporter pushed him for more details, replying: “Swinging a club? Lifting up a club?”

Johnson smiled and added: “No.

“Lifting up a kid… a bigger kid.”

That prompted the press room to break out in laughter as the journalist confirmed: “I’m done.”

Johnson married Paulina – the daughter of ice hockey legend Wayne Gretzky – at the Blackberry Farm resort in Tennessee last April, nine years after the couple got engaged.

But while Johnson angered many golf supporters by accepting the Saudi’s £100million offer and defecting to the LIV Tour.

However, his stunning wife regularly keeps her 1.1m Instagram followers happy with her series of racy snaps.

And Paulina will no doubt steal the show this week once again as she cheers her hubby on at the PGA.
