"Do it for the Saudi royals" - Phil Mickelson yelled during the rebel LIV golf event at Trump National

PHIL MICKELSON was told to "do it in the name of the Saudi royal family" during a harsh rebuke at Donald Trump.

52-year-old American golfer is one of those who abandoned the PGA Tour to take up the lucrative LIV Golf.

Phil Mickelson was ready for his shot when the call came in

He took another swing and walked away from the ball.

Jason Selvig, comedian, was responsible

Lefty just smiled and gave a thumbs up to his heckler

According to reports, Lefty accepted an offer of PS165million to join the breakaway group. This was funded by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, which is managed by the Saudi royals and government.

Two major sponsors dropped him after he revealed that he had been preprared to ignore concerns about Saudi Arabia's human right record.

He was then sent an open letter by the families of 9/11 victims. He replied: "I would like to say to all those that have lost loved ones or lost friends on September 11, that I have deep, deep empathy and sympathies for them." That is something I cannot stress enough."

Mickelson was one of the most prominent names to defect to LIV Golf. He is still angry and was attacked at the Trump National in Bedminster New Jersey this weekend.

Just as the six-time major champion was about to start teeing off on the 16th hole, a comedian made fun of him.

Jason Selvig from comedy duo The Good Liars was captured shouting at Mickelson, asking for a thumbs-up on the teebox.

After receiving a reply, Selvig, a Tom Cruise-like appearance, called out to the small crowd: "Do it in honor of the Saudi royal family." Mickelson was right behind the ball.

The money-grabbing golfer didn't look over, but instead stepped back amid grumblings from the crowd to reset.

Selvig was booed by some and reacted with a sarcastic apology. Security then warned the comedian that he would be kicked out for repeat offenses.

Mickelson finally took his shot. He put it in a bunker and almost found the water before making a Bogey.

He was four over par, bringing his total score to +40 after 11 rounds of golf.

When asked about the heckler, the Californian once-popular replied: "I had an amazing day."

"The people at the club have been wonderful. I was treated well by them, and had a great day with them.

To be honest, I'm just a bit frustrated by my game.

"To three-putt two of the last holes with makeable birdsies, I'm frustrated because I expect more from myself."

Mickelson and Donald Trump met at the club of the former President.

Security told Selvig to get rid of him for his prank

The controversial LIV Golf league has thrown the sport into civil warfare. Many players have given up their PGA membership in order to receive huge cheques and tournaments that are not cut.

LIV Golf has just announced a 14-tournament program for 2023, with a prize pool of PS336m and no clashes with majors or Ryder Cup.

This week's event, which is now under the new brand, will be the third. CEO Greg Norman is leading the charge. Stars such as Dustin Johnson and Bryson DeChambeau have all accepted the huge sum of Saudi cash.

After attending a New York launch party last week, Trump hosted the event. He also played in the pro am event.

American players had their PGA Tour memberships ripped up. As it stands, they will not be allowed to represent the United States at the Ryder Cup next September.

Rory McIlroy attacked players who joined the divisive LIV Series to fuel "resentment", while Tiger Woods "doesn’t understand" the logic behind the breakaway after apparently rejecting a PS820m offer.

The rebels were not afraid to party on a private plane before The Open.

Patrick Reed then walked up to St Andrew's wearing LIV Golf-branded clothing, and Henrik Stenson was deprived of the Ryder Cup captaincy.
