Cameron Smith, Open Golf Champion, signs a 'PS83m agreement to join Saudi-backed rebel group LIV Golf'. This is a huge blow to the PGA Tour

Cameron Smith, OPEN Champion, reported joining the Saudi-backed rebel LIV Golf Tour in a deal valued at PS83million.

28-year-old World No2 Smith won The Open at St Andrews, just weeks after he was born.

The Daily Telegraph reports that he has signed for LIV Golf rebels and will leave the US PGA Tour. This is backed up by the Saudi royal family.

Smith is well-known for his mullet hairstyle and will reportedly continue to play on the PGA Tour. He is also a favourite for the FedEx first prize of PS15m.

He will still be able to pocket a guaranteed PS83m if he signs for the LIV Golf circuit. This circuit is run by Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, and Phil Mickelson.

A formal announcement will not be made until after the FedEx Cup playoff series in America has concluded.

Smith will be playing at LIV’s International in Boston starting September 2.

Smith stated to reporters prior to the FedEx St. Jude Championship, "You know, my goal is win the FedExCup Playoffs."

"That's all I am here for. Cameron Smith will speak for the PGA Tour and LIV if you have any questions. Cameron Percy is not qualified to answer them.

"I am a man of my word, and whenever you guys want to know anything, it will be said by me."

After losing their temporary restraining orders in court, LIV Golf members Talor Gooch and Hudson Swafford have been disqualified from playing in the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

District Judge Beth Labson Freeman heard and ruled in favor of the PGA Tour. The PGA Tour had filed a motion in federal courts to prevent the three suspended players competing in the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Henrik Stenson, European Ryder Cup captain, was fired last month after he signed a PS40m deal with LIV Golf to join alongside other European stars such as Sergio Garcia or Lee Westwood.
