PAUL AZINGER told Brooks Koepka that he would give his American Ryder Cup slot to someone else if he didn't love the team.
After expressing doubts about the team structure of the US Ryder Cup, the former captain of the US Ryder Cup questioned Koepka on his commitment to American colleagues.
Azinger believes that Koepka should be allowed to play in the US Ryder Cup if he isn't willing to be a player on the team
.
Koepka stated that he does not believe it is fair for anyone to be responsible for the mistakes of someone else
Koepka does not believe he should be punished if someone misses their chance. He is proud of his performance and makes it clear that he views himself as an individual.
Azinger was offended by his comments. He believes that if Koepka, a wrist injury that forced him from the Tour Championship, doesn't want the team element, then other players will.
Golf.com spoke to the 61-year old, who led the US to their first Ryder Cup win in 2008 since 1999. He said that he doesn't think he is as passionate about the Ryder Cup as he once thought.
"If he doesn’t love it, he should give up his spot and find people who love it.
It is not for everyone. Brooks should think about whether he truly wants to be there if he doesn't love it and isn't sold out.
If Koepka plans to leave the team in the Ryder Cup, he will need to make his decision quickly.
