ALEJANDRO DEL RY scored a record-breaking 58 at Swiss Challenge, the lowest score ever in a major European tour event.

Spain's No392 ranked world was helped to Alej-end by eight birdies and three eagles. This round marked the first ever 14-under par round in golf.

Four other players also carded 58 in a major global competition, but they were all 'only 12 below par.

The European Tour described Del Rey's second round success at 23 years old as "utterly amazing" in an event that was moved to France for the first year.

Ryo Ishikawa, a Japanese star (2010), and Kim Seong-hyeon, a South Korean (May this year), have matched the feat at the Japan Golf Tour.

Del Rey's heroism on the par 72 Golf Saint Apollinaire course began immediately with a birdie, followed by eagles at the par-4 1th and the par-5 12th.

Thanks to birdies on the 14th, 15th and 15th, he turned on 29.
