After surviving death and leg amputation in a car accident, Tiger Woods is determined to attend the Open at St Andrews

TIGERWOODS is determined that he will be there for the 150th Open next Year - even though his golf game is only "a little hit and a giggle"

Woods is aware that he cannot compete with the best golfers in the world by July next year, because his broken leg won't be strong enough to allow him to play at his best.

Woods still has a lot to do to stay fit, as his leg movement is limited to a minimum.

He said that he would just like to return to his home of golf to remind himself of how fortunate he was to have survived the 85 mph crash in February.

Woods is the host of this week's Hero World Challenge, Bahamas. He said: "I'm fortunate to be alive, but still have the leg. These are two essential things.

"I am very grateful to someone upstairs for taking care of my needs, so that I can not only be here but also walk with no prosthesis.

"I have been through a lot of pain and, even though I was able walk into the room today with crutches, my leg still hurts as I sit here." My back hurts."

Woods will turn 46 next week. He was asked how close it was to having his right leg amputated and he replied, "Yeah that was on the table."

When he was asked his thoughts about the chances of him teeing up at the 2022 Open, he was far more positive.

He smiled and said, "I would love it to play at St. Andrews. There's no doubt about that." It is my favorite golf course in the entire world. It's a great honor to be a two time Open champion.

"So yes, I would like to be able play in the Open Championship. There's no question about that. I hope that physically, I can. It's up to me to make it happen. The tournament isn't going anywhere, but I have to get there first.

"This has been an amazing year. I'd like to close the chapter. It was full of tough memories, some difficult times, but also great times. It would be great to start over.

Woods said he played 18 holes on several occasions, but only from the forwards tees.

He said, "As far playing at the Tour level is concerned, I don't yet know when that will happen." I could play a few rounds here and there.

"I like the USGA's suggestion of Play It Forward. That idea is very appealing to me now. The tees at the back are too much for me.

"Seeing some of my shots falling out of the sky much faster than they used is eye-opening. But at least it's possible to do it again.

"That's something it was not clear that I would do. I can now play golf, but I don't know how high.

"Maybe it will one day be good enough for me to get out here and compete with these top players in the world."
