After being thrown at the DP World Tour Championship, Rory McIlroy tore his shirt from collar down.

COLLIN MORIKAWA held the star-spangled banner of European No 1. Rory McIlroy was so 'flagsick' that he tore off his shirt in frustration.

American 24-year-old shot a stunning final round 66 to win DP World Tour Championship.

McIIroy clearly fumed about his costly mistakes and ripped his shirt in fury.

He was the first player from his nation to win the Race to Dubai title and pocketed PS3million.

McIlroy, for his part, is always finding new ways to fail at the most important events.

As he stormed off the last green, he got really savage, grasping at his polo shirt and ripping it (right).

The 15th of May was a strange day for the Northern Irishman.

His approach crashed into the flagstick, bounced back into a bunker and McIlroy fell to the first of his three closing bogeys.

He was unable to hold a share of first place and fell into a tie for sixth. His final missed shot at the par five 18th where he drained his second shot in the water, sealed his disappointing 74.

McIlroy was reluctant to speak, but Morikawa was buzzing from the relief of playing the last 41 holes without a Bogey.

He stated, "It's very special. It is an honor to be the first American to win the Order of Merit in Europe, and to join many other Hall of Famers.

"It wasn't in my mind when I became a pro two years back.

"It was, yes, let's play around the world, but we didn’t know how the cards would be dealt.

"There is no better way to end it.

"I am always looking for the next, but I'm going with this one."

England's Matt Fitzpatrick seemed to be loosening Morikawa’s grip on the crown when he surged into the lead after seven early birdies.

After 40 holes, he was unable to make a birdie and was forced to drop shots at 16-17. He ended up with a 66 and a second-place finish alongside Swede Alexander Bjork.
