After being punished for losing his NFL fantasy league, a golf fan shot 40-over par at the US Open qualifier.

KANSAS CITY'S man was given a hard dose of reality when he was entered in a US Open qualifier for fantasy football forfeit.

John Eckert (26 years old) took part in the US Open local event to punish him for being last in an NFL fantasy football league.

Eckert's scorecard is a terrible start. However, he managed to get four pars in round 112

Eckert paid the debt to his friends Monday but came in dead last after a rough round of 112 at Oakwood Country Club.

He was now at 40-over par. The round started poorly when John headed to the wrong hole and missed his tee time.

Although he only played 'once or twice per month', the Overland Park native registered as a professional to gain entry to the event.

His astronomical score means he won't be allowed to return to the club, and his amateur status will be revoked.

ON A ROLL

Taco Bell is my favorite restaurant. I made drastic changes to get my favourite item back on the menu.

Eckert was astonished to start the round and was at +5 after two holes. He topped his first drive in front of confused playing partners.

Cole Gritton was with John, and noticed something wasn't right as soon as Eckert tried (and failed) to connect with his first Tee Shot.

The Golf Channel asked him to explain that he was aiming at 30 degrees and then he cold tops it by 15 feet.

"I didn’t know what to do. Although he did manage to get it across, the next red flag was when he put his glove on.

"I thought maybe this is just a weekend warrior and that this has been his dream, to play a qualifier."

"COLD TOPS IT 15 FOOT"

The worst was yet to come. His bogeys piled up, and his confused partners wondered who they were fighting against.

Eckert stated to ESPN that "[After topping my first shot] I knew it would be a struggle."

"[I] had some momentum going in to the qualifier, so my spirits were high."

Eckert, who says he scores in the 90s most of the time, made an ugly 10, on the par-4 fourth, and two triple-bogeys just before the turn.

He managed to score four pars in the 18-hole round and finished 40 shots behind Andrew Beckler and Ryan Argotsinger.

Eckert said, "I'm quite happy with the four Pars, for certain."

"The walking got me. I am more of a cart guy.

"The nerves began to calm down, and I settled into the round.

"I managed to score par on three of my five last holes. My confidence shot up after those holes.

"If this had been a qualifier for two rounds, it may have been a problem."

The Country Club in Brookline will host this year's US Open. It starts on Thursday, June 16th.
