MICHAEL MCINTYRE was left with egg – and water – on his face after a shot went wrong at James Maddison’s charity golf event.
The Tottenham star welcomed fellow footballers and A-list celebrities to Shire Golf Club to raise money for Super Strong Sophie’s Sparkle.
Michael McIntyre had to take a shot with his ball submerged by a puddle
He splashed himself in the face with his ambitious effort
Comedian McIntyre took part despite being a rookie when it comes to golf.
And, despite getting off to an impressive start with a tee shot that saw the Wheel host to pump the air with his fist, he soon came crashing back down to earth… literally.
McIntyre, 47, had misplaced his shot into a lake and, for some reason, decided to try to chip his ball out of the water.
Predictably, everything went very wrong – as he first splashed himself in the face with muddy water before tripping over into the sludge.
Fortunately, a wet and slightly embarrassed McIntyre was able to see the funny side and chuckled while he tried to regain his composure.
He then joked “I think it went well!” as onlookers laughed at his misfortune.
Some of McIntyre’s fellow competitors did not fare too much better with Maddison and Peter Crouch hitting wayward tee shots.
The comedian then tripped up to add insult to injury
The Wheel host fell straight into the sludge
Fortunately McIntyre saw the funny side
Despite the mishaps the event was a success with Maddison raising money and awareness for Sophie Grace Taylor, who passed away aged five in 2019 after suffering from osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer.
Maddison befriended Sophie while playing for Norwich and he has been keen to keep her legacy alive by raising awareness about the illness and trying to find a cure for the disease.
He spoke about the importance of the event, saying: “Sophie’s a young girl that I met when I was at Norwich and I was Sophie’s favourite player.
“We walked out together for the Aston Villa game about seven years ago maybe – Sophie sadly passed away but she was a legend honestly, nicest girl, if you met her you would just warm to her.
“She’s got the loveliest family ever as well. Alex and Kirsty, Sophie’s parents, are the nicest people ever so to see everyone turn out and all of this is to raise money to help the research into her and the specific cancer she had…heartwarming feeling.”
